Finance For The Times

By Ontario Taripre$

It’s hard to save a $1 when all you have is .50 cents! It’s hard to pay bills, when you know this is your last paycheck!

What to do, What to do? Well before I paid down all of my bills with my last check, I made sure I had something going on to create some kind of cash flow, but let’s see what else!

All credit cards have some sort of payment protection program. It’s in case of unemployment somehow. It pays the minimum balance until regular payments can be resumed. The fees are usually .60 cents to .89 cents per $100, not a bad deal to put a hold on credit card payments, the card is inactive while payment protection is in use!

I also utilized my utility companies. I called the electric and gas companies and let them know the issues. They both have some sort of payment plans that decreases my bill and stretches them out for a certain time frame, between 6 - 12 months! That’s really good, so now I won’t have to come out of such big chunks at once!

There are also programs from the state, here in Illinois it’s CEDA and LIHEAP! They pay the utilities when there’s a shut off notice! I used them late last year when I was in major trouble and Nicor threatened to cut my gas off in December! They paid the full bill, so I had a fresh start for ’08!

For food, the state to the rescue once again! Don’t be embarrassed, go down to the public aid office and get the food stamp card, Link Card for Illinois! It’s there for a reason, for people like us who need it, job loss is no joke and we still have to eat! Like me, I had to swallow my pride, go down there and fill out the application. I’m glad I did, now I get more food than I did out of my own pocket! So go down and use your tax dollars, get a card and go grocery shopping!

Lastly, find alternative cash flow. Until I’m able to find another job, I have to keep some sort of money coming in. It’s not what I used to make, but I do quite a few things from home. I use paid Social Communities, Paid Free Offers, Online Review Sites, Paid Free Trial Offers, Virtual Assistant Jobs, and still looking for other things. I have to keep myself sane so I try to keep at least some income flowing to make up for some of the money I lost!

These programs and suggestions do work, so please utilize it and let’s hope for the best in our futures!
